Let's try this again...

About the same time I started this thing my job took off and I've been fried ever sense-- although, in a good way. Love what I'm doing now.

We've uploaded some new photos to flickr you can check out. We went to Playa del Carmen a few weeks ago for what I hope will continue to be a yearly trip. On the first day we flew into Cancun (direct flight too- love you, VivaAerobus!), rented a car and drove to Chichen Itza. On the way we stopped and had lunch in Valladolid, a sizeable town considering it isn't on the coast and in the middle of the jungle. This colonial town dates to the 1500s, and has some interesting architecture. We lunched at the hotel Meson del Marques (http://www.mesondelmarques.com/valladolid/) as I was specifically looking for a chicken lime soup with smoked chipotle that I had read about prior. It was fabulous, and well worth the stop. We didn't take pictures, but I did stumble on someone else's pics of the hotel online-- and they even snapped the soup http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh26/MicheleinPlaya/Valladolid/Valladolid%20with%20Dean%20and%20Jody/.

At Chichen Itza we had booked a room on the grounds at the Mayaland hotel http://www.mayaland.com/mayaland.html that was fantastic. There are Mayan ruins scattered around and the wildlife is amazing. We saw the most colorful birds with amazing songs. Being surrounded by exotic birds and british people (not too many Americans most of the trip) made us feel a bit "Out of Africa" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089755 . Of course I found a dog to befriend, and she even stayed with me most of the day while touring the site. We would both highly recommend CI, and this hotel. I think we were even upgraded. Since we could walk to the park from our room we were able to get in when it opened at 7, and wrap up by 10:30-- just in time to beat the tour buses-- and jump in the pool as the lines formed.

At around noon we started on to Playa del Carmen, our favorite town in Mexico thus far. The town has pretty strict zoning so most hotels are small with a boutique feel. We stayed downtown at the Hotel Kinbe http://www.kinbe.com/ so we could stroll around at our leisure, rather than take cabs from the big resorts. We've tried the resort thing and have found that we get pretty bored, so we're trying to stay away from those moving forward. Playa is great because is safe, clean, has super restaurants, nightlife, atmosphere AND has a beautiful beach downtown (specifically towards the newer area referred to as "little italy" populated by many europeans and south americans.) The best beach we found was at a beach club with fab loungers and waiter service (http://www.mamitasbeachclub.com/, this is really less cheesey that it appears online). The best part is that off of the beach was a sandbar that kept the water calm and clear. Lastly, we were able to eat at one of our favorite restaurants, Yaxche http://www.mayacuisine.com/.

Today we finally checked out one of the best-known BBQ restaurants around Austin, Kreuz Market http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml. Pretty good brisket, great smoke ring and outstanding flavor but really salty. We also drove through Wimberley and it is definitely someplace I want to check out a bit more. Charming little village right on a scenic curve of the river.

Still loving Austin, and direct flights to Mexico!

Oh, and food for thought http://cheapjap.com/2008/06/03/the-myth-of-the-under-100-outfit/. I'm not necessarily on one side or the other of this post.

I think this says it all

Some People Scrapbook...

We are moving into 2002 and putting ourselves out there for the world to see because, well, we just are that interesting. I'm sure the anticipation has been killing you.

We've had multiple requests for pics of the wedding, house, dogs, vacations and general going-ons. This blog is only as good as what the readers want to know, so, please let me know what you think. I love feedback of any kind. Requests are welcomed.

The dogs are certainly ready for prime-time exposure and are accepting endorsement offers to offset the cost of kibble, treats and medical care. It is about time they start contributing.

You may also notice that in addition to home and dog updates, you'll receive insight into what I think is important-- or at least interesting. Maybe your mind will open, perspectives will change, you'll adopt a homeless animal, and learn to market your skills too.
